Jonny Mansour's story is about much more than boxing. It's a story of faith, family, and a promise.
Born and raised in San Diego to Iraqi immigrant parents, Jonny discovered boxing at just 8 years old. He rose through the amateur ranks to become one of the top young boxers in the United States, earning a spot on Team USA and winning a National Golden Gloves title. Despite cultural expectations to pursue a more traditional career, he remained committed to chasing his dream in the ring.
Everything changed when his mother, Bushra Mansour, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. For four years, Jonny and his family fought alongside her, pursuing every treatment they could in hopes of beating the disease. Through it all, she became his biggest supporter. What began as concern over boxing turned into immense pride as she watched her son climb toward the professional ranks.
Before one of the biggest fights of his career, Jonny wore a robe with the words "My Mom Is My Hero." After winning, he dedicated the victory to her in the ring, telling her:
"I love you, Mom… You're my hero… We're going to beat cancer."
Just two days later, she passed away.
Since then, every fight has carried a deeper purpose. Jonny has often said he is no longer fighting only for titles or an undefeated record — he is fighting to honor his mother, fulfill the promise he made to her, and one day become a world champion in her name. That mission is reflected in everything he does, from his ring walks to the messages he shares with fans and the way he represents his family, faith, and Chaldean community.
His journey is built on one simple promise:
"I'm fighting to make my mom proud — and I won't stop until I become world champion."
02 / Roots
From Iraq to San Diego.
Jonny Mansour was raised in San Diego, California with deep roots in the Chaldean community of northern Iraq.
He grew up walking the same neighborhoods he now represents in the ring — a first-generation kid with a family story stretching from the ancient town of Alqosh all the way to the Southern California coast.
That identity shapes everything about him: how he trains, who he fights for, and the flag he hopes to carry onto the world's biggest stages.
03 / The Amateur Years
Built in the gym. Forged on the road.
Jonny finished his amateur career as one of the most decorated American fighters of his generation — a 2× National Golden Gloves Champion and the #1 ranked amateur boxer in the United States in his division.
A former Team USA athlete, he represented the country on the international stage and stacked a 140–16 amateur record along the way.
04 / Turning Pro
7–0 and climbing.
Jonny turned professional and quickly became one of San Diego's most exciting rising fighters — undefeated at 7–0 on BoxRec.
In his last homecoming at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, he sold 4,800 tickets — turning a fight night into a hometown event.
Known for his speed, discipline, and heart, he fights with the composure of a veteran and the hunger of a kid who's still chasing something bigger.
